Back Flow Testing (RPZ)

A Reduced Pressure Zone Device (RPZ) is a type of backflow prevention device used to protect water supplies from contamination. It is used with building plumbing systems to prevent containments from back flowing into public water supplies and polluting public water.

Events such as water main breakage, freezes, or unusual stress on a water system may affect water pressure, thereby allowing polluted water to return to the main water supply.

If a backflow from your building pollutes the public water supply you are liable—which could be very costly for you. If the water meter is in your name you are responsible.

RPZ back flow devices are installed to prevent this from happening. Federal, state, and local regulations require yearly RPZ testing by an accredited tester. These regulations along with OSHA standards require that RPZ's be rebuilt every 5 years. It is required for all Commercial Buildings.
